Customer Account Statement: What It Is and How to Read It

Learn how to read a customer account statement, understand opening balances, invoices, payments, returns, and closing balances, and track outstanding receivables accurately.

A customer account statement is an accounting report showing transactions associated with a customer over a selected period, including credit invoices, payments, returns, and adjustments. Start with the opening balance, review debit transactions that increase receivables and credit transactions that reduce them, then check the closing balance.

For example, an opening balance of 1,000 plus credit sales of 3,000, minus payments of 2,500 and returns of 500, leaves 1,000 outstanding. Try Cash Cloud for free to explore customer account and reporting tools.
